29th Sep Performance in Tate Britain
I went to the Tate Britain before the course starts. There was a performance happening In the hall. It's called Historical Dance In An Antique Setting by Pablo Bronstein. I didn't find the performer at the beginning until I saw a lady dressed up with red tops, a big pearl necklace and black legging. There was some tapes on the floor with different shapes through the south hall to the north. The performers were dancing on the tapes. This piece reminds me the project's place we are going to work on. It's Trinity. Because the building in Tate Britain and Trinity are all historical building. I really like the idea of following the tapes on the floor. it's reminds me the balerina inside the music box. I would like to use the following tapes idea for my future development
Monday 3rd Oct
We had an Unit 6 briefing in the afternoon with Michael. He said there are some difference for the project with last year. Last year was 27 composers who works with the trinity project. But this year are only 10 composers. But we still want to do this project. I like this project and I want to collaborate with different people. We are going to meet at the Trinity on this Thursday. I'really exciting to see the place and meet the composers.
Tuesday 4th Oct
We had an Unit 5 briefing in the afternoon. I need to hand in the proposal on next Monday. The proposal is about choosing an area that I want to develop for my future career. It's really difficult for me to choose an area of what I want to do in the future. Because I want to learn all the things in PDP and I still have lots of stuffs that I didn't try and learn. I only know what I don't want to do In the future which is Costume Designer. I think I need to go to the library to find some books about different areas of PDP to see which area I enjoy the most.
Wednesday 5th Oct
I went to the Library in the afternoon to find some books for my proposal.I didn't search for specific books to look at, I just searched Theatre and walks through the theatre area book shelves. I picked up some set design books, some acting books and some performance books. I looks through these books and I found out that the set design has some connection with me. Looking back to what I've done in last 4 years. I found out that all the things I made is relevant to Set design. I enjoy making 3D stuffs and painting by using different materials. I built a big spider when I was studying in A Levels. I made a mask costume in Foundation. The costume is like a prop costume. I also made a prop for the o'clock work orange project. I enjoy the last unit of my first year which I made two small set models. I found out that all the stuffs I made is links to Prop designs and it's inside of the Set design. I think I will choose Set Designer for now. I might change it for the future but I'm sure I want to develop the Set designs further.
Thursday 6th Oct
We went to Trinity Laban in this morning. I really like the feelings of Trinity Laban. When I walked in to the courtyard of the building. I was influenced by the music. There were different instrument playing in different classroom and I can hear all of it in the courtyard. I felt really calm and peaceful. Michael showed us the spaces that we are going to work with. They all have different moods and I like all the places. We also met the composers and they introduced themselves. They are going to meet us and tell us about their music on next week so we can decide where and which composer we want to work with. I'm so exciting about this project. I think I will really enjoy this project.
I went to the library after the trinity tour. I found some books about set designs. I found a book that I really like is called Hockney Paints the Stage. I really like his set paintings. And when I look through this book I feel more sure about choosing set designer for my future career.

I went to the Colleen Atwood's talk in the afternoon. I really like her costume designs. She talked about her life and how she got into costume designer. She wants to be a painter when she was young. She works in a restaurant before and she doesn't know anything about costume designs when she starts to work on it. She also showed us a short video about the costumes she made. She said even the details on the costume won't show in the film, she still makes every part of the costume scrupulous.
Friday 7th Oct
I read the unit 5 brief again and I think I need to work on my workflow. So I started to work on it. I decide to make the investigation and reflective journal separately because I think it will be easy for me to look at and also for other people to look at. I think I need to research more and expand my knowledge about Set design. I need find more books to read. I also need to research online.

I went to the White cube in the morning.I saw the "Fit" of Antony Gormley's new Exhibition at Bermondsey. The figure sculptures he made were made of Steel bar, Cast iron, Corten still slab, Concrete and Lead. He uses Architecture way to build the figures.
Antony Gormley is widely acclaimed for his sculptures, installations and public artworks that investigate the relationship of the human body to space. His approach to exhibition making is a test ground for perception, focusing on the mapping of our subjective experience and the potential of the viewer's projected empathy. As he explains further, it is his challenge to:" make a show that allows forms and materials to work on us, releasing us from any expectations of what sculpture is and how it might act on us."
Thursday 13th Oct
I got the disk of last year's performance in Trinity Laban from Fred in the morning. I start to watch it in the library. I found a lot of interesting things and ideas from the video. As I'm watching the videos, I found that most of the performances were dance piece. Some of the performances were like a concert. There is one performance interact with the audiences, I found is interesting. Some of the performances used projections in the room. Some of the performances used lightings. Because of the performance is start at evening, it's really dark in the building.
Performances used lightings.

I went to see the video for the Last year's Trinity again with our classmate. I found more things I need to do. I need to book projector, lighting equipment at list one week before to ensure that we can use it on the performance day. For the loggia, if I want to open the door, I need to request to open. Our performance is in the middle of December, so it will be cold. We can get dancers from trinity. Make sure to ask them how many instrument they need.

The Sonic Great Wall By Huang Ruo
I went to a music performance in St John's Smith Square in the evening. There are two composers called Huang Ruo and Christian Mason.
The first piece is called The sonic Great Wall by Huang Ruo. The performance is based on the relationship between the Composer, Musician and Audience. He separate the audience into six groups and he said we are like the Great wall's fire tower. For his performance, the audiences are in part of the performance. We were taught to Humming, Whispering and Singing in different groups and the Musicians were separated infant of each groups and also on the stage. I really like the ideas of making the audience as a part of the performance. He used audience's voice to create a music and the music was very beautiful. It reminds me how the soldier fight for a battle and how they protect the Great wall in china.
Poem for Whispering
In The Midst Of The Sonorous Island By Christian Mason
The second piece is called In The Midst Of The Sonorous Island by Christian Mason. This piece also collaborate with the audience. He used Five Instruments for the Audience: Foil, Chains, Baoding balls, Bottles and Harmonicas. We were prompted to play our instrument in a particular time. I really like the Ideas of using simple elements to let the audience play. The sound created buy the five instruments were beautiful and it's fuse with the music perfectly. During the performance the musicians were walking and playing the instruments from the back of our seats to the middle of the place to the stage. The sound was surrounded us and it's beautiful.

First Meeting with Composer James Taylor
We had a meeting with our composer James Taylor in the afternoon at Pdp studio. We introduced ourself to each other. Me and Angela showed him some of our works we did last two years. He shows us some musics he made last years and some other from years ago.
He sent us an email last friday. His idea is about involving a couple having dinner not been dialogue and wants to use percussive sounds, movement, objects around them.this idea was inspired by a video called table music by Thierry De Mey.
His interest is percussive sounds. He wants to use things that shouldn't be a instrument be a instrument. Things can be used for different purpose. And that's what I wants to explore. I saw the performance by Chritian Mason and he used five instruments: Foil, chains, bottles, balls and harmonicas. I wants to explore the sound of different objects.
We came with a Question to be our Theme: How the movement can be heard?
He told us some artists for us to look at.
Michel Gondry. Edward Mutbridge. Philip Glass. Terry Riley. Steve Reich. OK GO. Thierry De Mey.
After I looked some of their works, It reminds me the workshop we did when we were in the first year. We had a performance called Bank robbery. it's about using different techniques to forming the performance, like looping, slow version, fast version of the performance.
We had some ideas about using bicycle wheels to create sounds or using wheel chair to let the performer sit on it and roll it onto the objects that create sounds.
Basically our interests are about percussive sounds speed, circle, loop, motion and how the movement can be heard. I will research more about these and we are going to meet up this friday as well. We will meet at trinity so we will see where will our space is.

I talks with Michael and our classmates about what I want to choose for the part 2 project. I want to choose Dance Lab for my first choice. Because it's happens really fast. we need to have a performance each week. So I can get feedbacks from the audiences and teachers. I enjoy making set designs and props. But Michael said the Counter culture might be the good choice for me. I said I would like to collaborate with the audiences. I was thinking to choose Film for my second choice. But I don't have enough skills for film. After the class. I was really confused for what is the best choice for me. So I send an email to Michael and I want to have a tutorial with him.

Group Meeting for James Layton
We had a group meeting at the Library in the afternoon. We talks through our ideas and we decide which idea we all like. We kind of give each of us an role for who's making what. I want to do set designs and prop design. One theme is Colour and we all like to make a performance that can make audience walks around. One of our idea is to make four islands and the islands are like the pallet. we want to make for color of the island and we can choose a color to work on. We are going to meet our composer James layton on this Friday and we are going to tell him what our ideas are and then start to work on our works.
Tutorial with Michael
I went to see Michael is the afternoon. I showed him some of my works during foundation and first year. He said looking at my works he sees that I really enjoy making things by hand, like props. He said the best choice for me is Counter Culture or Dance Lab. He told me that Dance Lab is coupling with dancers and i'm not interested in working with dancers. So i think the best choice for me is the Counter Culture. Also I told him I don't like costumes. He said I don't like the fabric costumes but in a prop costume. That is what I was thinking about. I think I will choose Counter Culture for my first choice and Dance Lab for my second choice.

The Infinite Mix Exhibition: Contemporary Sound and Image. At Hayward Gallery.
This exhibition brings audiovisual artworks of a wide range of subjects. In all of these works the interplay of sound and image is crucial. Most of the works are remixed soundtracks that relate to the visual element in unexpected ways, and to ensure that what you hear is just as important as what you see.
There are ten pieces and the ways of showing the works are all different. I think this exhibition if useful for my Trinity project. Because our project is also about music. I think I can get some ideas of how the musics were performed by the performers although it's all music videos. I can still see how they interact with the musics. And also the ways of placing the camera and peoples in the videos.

Trinity Group Meeting with James Taylor:
We shared our researches and our ideas together.I showed James and Angela my ideas and they are happy with that. Our idea is to explore how the movement can be heard. James brought a book Called Edward Muybridge: The Human And Animal Locomotion Photographs. He showed us a photo by eadweard Muybridge. We were thinking to have a circle floor plan for the performers and the musicians to walk on. Then James shows this photograph and he said he wants to use this photograph to explore the shape pf the floor plan. Then I came up with an idea of follow the movement of the musicians and the instrument and create the shape for the floor plan. He has 5 musicians for the performance. So we were thinking to film them and starts to work on the floor plan.
Creating floor plan with movement of the instruments and the movement of the musicians.James will film the musicians and send the video to me and Angela. We will work on the shape of the floor plan. Make a small model box for it.
After we designed the floor plan. We can start to work on the sets, props, costume.

Sculpture by Antony Gormley
I really like this sculpture, I like the feeling when I walked in. I felt really scary as I walked in. The sound is surounding me as I'm walking inside. I couldn't see anything inside and when I finally turn around and I saw the people outside and has the lights on them makes me feel there's an angel waiting for me to go out. I really like the views of looking from the inside out.
